
BISAP has successfully implemented the “Advancing Sustainable Environmental Health (ASEH–Urban)” project in the urban slum areas of Bou Bazar, located in the heart of Chittagong city collaboration with collaboration of NGOF/Water-Aid. This initiative aims to transform Environmental Health conditions and promote sustainable Hygiene practices among underserved Urban Settlements. With strategic coverage across Wards 17, 18, and 19, the project directly serves over 3,000 vulnerable households, addressing pressing Public Health and Sanitation challenges.
The overarching goal is to foster sustainable Environmental Health through community-driven action, Behavioral Change, and effective Hygiene Practices, guided by a comprehensive action plan, budget framework, and donor-supported implementation strategy.
Project Objectives:
- Enhance Access to Safe Water and improve environmental sanitation facilities for marginalized populations in Urban Settlements.
- Assess and Reflect Sanitation Realities using participatory, community-based assessments.
- Strengthen Community-Based Management for sustainable Safe Water and Sanitation Services.

- Promote Hygiene Education across all age, gender, and social groups.
- Develop Community-led Solid Waste Management Systems tailored to local contexts.
- Build Community Capacity through group formation and Skill Development.
- Empower Hygiene Champions by training community members to act as local change agents.
- Engage Local Government Institutions in taking Leadership Roles in Sanitation Improvement.
- Mobilize Children and Students as active participants in Sanitation initiatives.

- A successful Arsenic Testing Campaign raised awareness about Safe Water practices.
- Sanitation Month activities engaged City Corporation, DPHE, local Government Administration, Media, Civil Society, and Children’s Groups & Land Owner.
- Women and Children emerged as Key Hygiene Ambassadors within their communities.
- Regular community coordination and follow-up have strengthened ownership and sustainability.
- Behavioral changes are clearly visible as Hygiene Awareness and Environmental Health Practices are now integrated into everyday life.
Conclusion:
The “Advancing Sustainable Environmental Health (ASEH–Urban)” project has achieved remarkable success in improving Hygiene Behavior and Environmental Health standards in CCC Wards of Urban Slums. The Urban Settlements of targeted Wards are now more conscious & aware about their Personal Health and Environmental Hygiene, informed, and engaged in creating a cleaner and healthier living environment. Through inclusive participation, strategic partnerships, and ongoing education, BISAP has laid a strong foundation for sustainable Urban Health Transformation in the City Wards of Urban Settlements.
