Poverty Alleviation Programmer For Distressed Women supported by Presbyterian Church U.S.A

BISAP implemented above project in 13 villages under 2 Unions of 1 Upazilla of Chittagong District Coastal Region for Women Empowerment in alleviation of poverty and Hunger from 2000-2001, Supported by Presbyterian Church, USA.

Specific Objectives :

  • By activating Group dynamism of the organized women in terms of leadership development decision making process, maintaining accounts & records to run their groups independently.
  • BY developing Human Potentialities, Knowledge and Skills of the Group Members and Leaders through appropriate Training for enhancing their Knowledge and Skills to change the situation either collectively or individually with mutual trust and equity.
  • By mobilizing local available resources i.e. manpower, water and soil.
  • By enhancing regular income of 40 group members through social business, entrepreneurship development for alleviation of poverty and hunger through active involvement and participation.
  • By facilitating economic development with that of social coherence for generating fraternity among the distressed coastal women.
  • By facilitating vulnerable Group Members to develop their Groups with their Leadership for raising their voices unitedly in favour of their rights.
  • By providing Saplings of Timber, Fuel and Fruit to the group members for encouraging in development of Home-based Social Afforestation to maintain Ecological Balance and generate supplementary source of income.
  • By mobilizing Local resource both Government and Non-Government properly in favour of poverty alleviation.
  • By social mobilization and empowerment to women to alleviate poverty and hunger.
  • By boosting up production and productivity both farm & non-farm sectors.
  • By accumulating regular savings fund.
  • By reduction of isolation, ignorance and superstition of the distressed women.

The project empowered of 800 women under 40 groups in Alleviation of Poverty and Hunger. Through this programme BISAP able to accomplish following activities    (a) Conducted baseline family survey of 800 group members for problems identification, (b) Facilitated organized group members to raise their social awareness so that they  are able to  realize  their position and enable to combat the problems and limitation, (c) Activated group dynamism  of 40 groups with 800 distressed and powerless women in terms of regular meeting, raising saving fund and others, (d) Imparted trainings on Social

analysis and root causes of poverty and hunger for 120 group members training on Leadership development training on women rights & legal education, Nutrition education & cooking balanced food, Social awareness building & human development, preventive health care and MCH care, Credit utilization and management system, Improved agricultural practices and homestead vegetable gardening, Annual get-together, and Workshop for group leaders on women empowerment in Poverty and Unger (e) Distributed Saplings of Timber Fuel and Fruit to  800 group members for home based social a forestation (f) Organized action-plan wise promotional activities as per plan, for making the programme socially accepted, people oriented and leading towards  sustainability.
