Access to preventive healthcare is essential for building healthier communities, especially in underprivileged urban areas where resources are limited. Recognizing this need, BISAP, with generous support from the AMI Foundation, successfully conducted a Capacity Building Workshop on Community Preventive Healthcare Awareness in Ward #13 of Chittagong City Corporation’s urban slum. The workshop engaged over 30 enthusiastic community members, fostering a collective commitment to improving public health through preventive measures.
A Step Toward Healthier Communities
The primary objective of this initiative was to educate and empower local residents about the significance of preventive healthcare and how it directly impacts their well-being. Using an interactive and participatory approach, the training sessions featured Health Flip Charts, real-time discussions, and expert-led presentations, ensuring an engaging learning experience for all attendees.
Key Topics Covered
The workshop provided insights into:
✔️ Common health risks faced by urban slum dwellers.
✔️ Practical preventive measures to reduce the spread of diseases.
✔️ The importance of hygiene, sanitation, and nutrition in maintaining good health.
✔️ Community-driven initiatives to mobilize resources and strengthen healthcare awareness.
Strengthening Community Engagement
A key focus of the program was to highlight the power of collective action in fostering a healthier environment. Trainers encouraged active participation from community members, urging them to take ownership of their health and spread awareness among their peers. Discussions also emphasized the need for enhanced communication and collaboration to make healthcare solutions more accessible and effective.
A Unified Commitment to Change
As the workshop concluded, participants reached a unified agreement to advocate for and implement preventive healthcare measures in their daily lives. Their commitment to spreading awareness, maintaining hygiene, and supporting each other marks a significant step toward building a more resilient and health-conscious community.
Looking Ahead
This initiative by BISAP and the AMI Foundation underscores the importance of sustainable health education programs in urban slum areas. By equipping residents with knowledge and practical tools, we move closer to a future where preventive healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental right for all.
