Self-Reliance of BISAP through Poultry, Bird Rearing, and Social Business.
To strengthen its capacity for long-term humanitarian support to vulnerable communities, BISAP has initiated efforts toward achieving organizational self- reliance. As part of this strategy, BISAP has successfully established two poultry farms, each housing 1,000 chickens.
These farms have been operating actively, focusing on sustainable poultry and bird rearing practices. Alongside the poultry initiatives, BISAP has also set up a handicraft production center specializing in jute bags and embroidery items. These ventures aim to generate independent income streams to support BISAP’s community service programs.

An important aspect of these initiatives is the active involvement of project beneficiaries. Local community members, particularly women and youth, have been engaged in the entire process from Chicken rearing and Handicraft Production to managing markets and overseeing the overall operations of these initiatives.

Through targeted training and capacity-building sessions, beneficiaries have developed essential skills in craft-making, social business, entrepreneurship skilled and marketing. Their involvement not only contributes to the sustainability of the projects but also empowers them economically and socially.
Over the past year, BISAP’s Poultry Farms and Handicraft Center have demonstrated promising results. A steady income flow has been generated from the sale of poultry products such as meat and eggs, as well as from the Handicrafts, particularly eco-friendly jute bags and beautiful hand-embroidered items. The products have gained recognition in local markets for their quality and affordability, and efforts are underway to expand to wider markets, including urban outlets and online platforms.

The income generated through these initiatives is gradually contributing to BISAP’s goal of partial self-reliance. With the revenue earned, BISAP can now allocate a portion of funds to sustain its humanitarian programs, including education, health, disaster response, and livelihood support for marginalized populations. This income diversification is helping to reduce dependency on external donors, ensuring that BISAP can continue to serve communities even during funding shortages.

To maximize the impact of these income-generating activities, BISAP is taking several strategic steps. Improvements are being made to farming practices by introducing better feed, healthcare, and breeding techniques to enhance poultry productivity. In the Handicraft center, product designs are being diversified based on market demand, and quality control measures are being strengthened to maintain competitive standards.
Moreover, BISAP is exploring partnerships with local businesses, cooperatives, and fair-trade networks to create more robust marketing channels for its products. Marketing training for the beneficiaries is being provided to equip them with skills to negotiate better prices and expand customer bases. Simultaneously, financial literacy training is being offered to ensure that income earned is managed wisely, supporting both personal growth of the beneficiaries and the overall sustainability of the projects.

Recognizing the importance of environmental sustainability, BISAP’s Poultry and Handicraft initiatives also incorporate eco-friendly practices. The jute products contribute to reducing plastic usage, promoting environmental consciousness. In Poultry Farming, efforts are being made to manage waste responsibly and maintain Hygienic farming conditions, ensuring minimal environmental impact.
While these initiatives are still in their growing phase, the positive trends observed over the last year have been highly encouraging. It is anticipated that, with continued focus and investment, the income from the poultry farms and handicraft production will significantly enhance BISAP’s financial stability in the coming years. This progress will allow BISAP to strengthen its ongoing programs and expand support to even more vulnerable and marginalized communities.

In conclusion, BISAP’s approach to self-reliance through Poultry bird rearing, and Handicraft production is proving to be a sustainable and impactful strategy. By integrating community participation, skill development, market engagement, and environmental sustainability, BISAP is not only securing its own future but also building resilience among the communities it serves. With sustained efforts, BISAP envisions becoming increasingly self-sufficient, thus ensuring uninterrupted humanitarian support for the most vulnerable populations over the long term.
